I've managed to get the subreddit back from one of the original moderators and removed the offending users. I'll begin the cleanup process but for now this issue is resolved. Leaving the post for posterity.
Hi there. I run a site called YTMND.com and it has been around since 2004, it has hundreds of thousands of users and has been in the news a bunch recently. We're having a problem with a subreddit, /r/ytmnd
It was created by a user around 10 years ago who since deleted their account. It has never had many users and I, nor anyone from the YTMND staff have never been involved in the moderation of the subreddit. It was running decently until a few years ago when some new mods took over.
These mods were YTMND users who had been continually harassing others on YTMND.com and were repeatedly banned for breaking rules, being obnoxious, posting NSFW/racist/garbage content and generally spamming the site. They literally spent years behaving like this and finally caused us to disable all access from Tor/VPNs/etc just so they'd go away. Since then they've been actively harassing me and other YTMND users via the subreddit.
They posted about how I banned them here (using unreddit to show the moderated comments which were deleted) https://snew.notabug.io/r/ytmnd/comments/9bxb57/redneon_me_and_superdreamkilla_are_permanently/
Shortly after this they banned me from the subreddit with a note "You are a horrible, conceited, soulless, inconsiderate prick and none of us want you around anymore.". YTMND has been in the news lately and many users have contacted me about the state of the subreddit. It is now filled with hateful, racist posts, many of which have my avatar pasted on them (my avatar is a stylized version of a photo of me at age 8).
Additionally they created new accounts and have made them moderators with "YTMND" in their username, giving the sense that they are somehow officially associated with our community.
They posts libelous things about me (that I harbor pedophiles and child pornagraphy, am a terrible person, etc) and have banned me, so there's no way I can respond. They actively try to direct users to a separate inferior site they made, a clone called "NeoYTMND".
Members of YTMND and the general world are visiting this subreddit and assuming it's associated with and representitive of our community, and it isn't. I think the majority of the ~1000 of the subreddit's users joined before the current regime as it doesn't appear that anyone uses the subreddit other than the moderators.
Here's an image gallery showing some of the junk they post: https://imgur.com/a/8GN0jFM
And them removing dissenting users criticizing the way they're running the subreddit:
https://snew.notabug.io/r/ytmnd/comments/bovt3x/the_real_reason_signups_were_disabled_with_proof/
And finally some proof that I am who I say I am: http://ytmnd.com/hi_reddit.txt
Ideally the subreddit would be transfered to the YTMND staff so we can actually engage with the community directly and properly moderate, or if that isn't possible, close the subreddit entirely so legitimate YTMND users aren't given the impression that it's associated with the site. Any help on this matter would be appreciated.
